It has been hardened and tempered for durability and edge retention. a perfect knife for hacking trees, splitting lumber, or any other bushcraft need. The handle feels good in the hand, and is large enough for a few different grips. The wood at the back of the handle is made from an old fence post, made from long needle pine which has been preserved over the years due to a high resin content.
